Tree Planting - Ontario

Heritage Reforestation Inc.

A cross section of the forest where me and my crew planted. The terrain was treacherous.

My responsibility as a tree planter is to plant trees - as many as possible. While the act of planting trees seems repetitive, it is the perseverance and mental toughness that count. The physical exhaustion, treacherous terrain, the cold rainy nights, and the bugs’ bites test the endurance of any planter. Despite losing 15 lbs in 2.5 months, I was strong enough to push through and planted 1,500 trees per day - 70,000 trees for the total season.

Role

Tree Planter

Highlights

  • I was proud of myself for having successfully endured the whole planting season, with all 70,000 trees on the ground.

  • When the trees reach their maturity, each will absorb more than 40lbs of CO2 per year. 70,000 trees equate to more than 2,500,000 lbs of CO2 absorbed in a year.

  • My balance and lower body strength improved after carrying 30-lbs bag of trees for 8-11 hours each day. And fat was burned.
